I am happy to report that sleep has improved in our house over the past week or so. Hurrah! Many thanks to those of you who offered tips and encouragement because it all helped.
Last night Ava slept from 7 pm to 5 am and only woke twice for just a few minutes, putting herself back to sleep! To get to here we first figured out that the main issue was Ava thought she needed to nurse to fall back asleep – she wasn’t actually hungry. So first, Mike (bless his heart) took on her typical 11 pm or so waking – for about 4 nights he got her back to sleep without needing to nurse (not to say there weren’t lots of tears – from Ava, that is). After about four nights of that, she stopped waking up at 11! As part of this process she seemed to figure out that she can get back to sleep herself, without nursing. This has been key. Now we’ll hear her stir and even fuss a little and the majority of the time she gets herself back to sleep. Success!
It is truly amazing how much affect sleep has on our lives. Now that we’re all sleeping better, we are all happier and have more energy. Thank goodness.
